Despite numerous firings and internal turbulance Xolo is back to its best when it comes to mobile handsets. It’s been lagging well behind Micromax for the last few years, especially when comparing flagship phones With the Xolo Play, though, Xolo is back on form and has created a true rival for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Micromax, on the other hand, have dominated sales with the Micromax Canvas HD and have upped the ante with the Micromax Canvas 4, removing the annoyances of its predecessor (such as the oversaturated screen), and packing a 5-inch screen and more gimmicks into it than you can shake a stick at.
But which is better? We’ve had a long hard look at both phones, and here’s what we think….
Micromax Canvas 4 is available for Rs 17,999 while you can pre-book the Xolo handset now for Rs 15,999.
2)Design & Display
Canvas 4: 144.5 x 73 x 8.9mm, 158g
Play T1000: 138.4 x 70 x 10.4mm, 167g
The Canvas 4 boasts a 5 inch IPS display with HD 1280x720p resolution, that comes to a ppi of 294.Whereas the Play has 4.7 inch HD 1280x720p resolution which has a higher density(313 ppi) than the Canvas 4.According to Xolo, the Play has an IPS screen with One Touch Glass Solution technology, which claims to provide better protection from scratches while providing better colour output and brightness than ordinary displays. While the Canvas 4 has a bigger screen and is lighter on the hand but it’s surely not lighter on the pocket.
Both the phones have 1GB of RAM,while Micromax is the clear winner here for its 16GB of internal storage(of which 10GB is usable) as compared to 4GB(actual usable space unknown) of the Play, both the phones have expansion by sd card option.
While both the phones do run Android Jellybean, there is a slight difference. The Canvas 4 has Android v4.2.1 whereas the Play has Android v4.1.1.Which means the Play won’t have the latest features of Android like lockscreen widgets etc. There is no word from Xolo about a system update yet,so Micromax wins here too.
Both the phones boast of Quad-Core processors so the possiblilty of finding lag is very low.But Xolo takes the lead here with its NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor clocked in at 1.5Ghz which gives you the same power as that of Nexus 7 which is ideal for gaming and does justice to its name “Play”.The Canvas 4 however is no slowpoke having a MediaTek Cortex A7 quad-core processor with 1.2GHz clock speed.
If you look at the numbers alone then the Canvas 4 has a lead with 13mp rear and a 5mp front camera, while the Play has an 8 mp rear camera and a 2mp front. But megapixels alone don’t judge a camera there’s more to it like sensors, image stabilization and optimizations. The previous generation Canvas HD had disappointed us with its camera while other Xolo handsets do show better quality.
Both the phones boast a 2000mah battery but the Xolo Play would last longer because of its Tegra 3 processor optimizations.
The Canvas 4 wins over the Xolo Play for its newer OS version, better camera and internal memory considering the fact that Play is supposed to be a gaming device.
Although both smartphones have similar specifications, the price factor could help the Xolo Play dominate over the Indian Market.
However, a closer look will reveal much more about these handsets so stay tuned for a detailed review of both devices.
